In the article (David, 2015) introduces the PU106A Hybrid power unit. The main function of the PU106A Hybrid was to power the Mercedes W05, developed by the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team in the 2014 Formula One season. What makes the PU106A Hybrid is the main V6 internal combustion engine (ICE) equipped with a turbocharger. According to (How a Turbocharger Works, n.d.), it allows more compressed air into the ICE to produce more power during the combustion phase. The Energy Recovery System (ERS) is the hybrid system of a modern F1 car. The ERS, (Blackstock, 2022) said that it consists of 3 components, Motor Generator Unit–Kinetic (MGU-K), Motor Generator Unit–Heat (MGU-H) and Energy Store (ES). The purpose of the 2 generator units is to generate and deploy energy from different parts of the car, as well to store energy to the ES like a battery. In an article by (Fagnan, 2016) conducted an interview with Rémi Taffin, Taffin said that the MGU-H is located between the turbine and compressor of the turbocharger. From the same article explains that the MGU-K is connected to the crankshaft which helps it to rotate when throttle is applied by the driver.

Mercedes AMG W05 Power Unit (PU106A Hybrid) Firstly, Skylar and I agreed to choose a sector in automotive engineering that pushes the advances of technology to its limits. Formula One is an open-wheel, single-seater formula race cars and the highest league category in motorsports. With over 73 years of research and development, Formula One established itself to be the most advanced motorsport up to date (What is Formula 1).
